The Country Range 25th Anniversary Exhibition, Conference and Gala Dinner

Staff members from Trevors Foodservive joined members of the Country Range Group for their 2017 annual conference, exhibition and Gala dinner which was held at the International Centre in Telford. With over 100 suppliers showcasing their products this was a fantastic day. The evening Gala dinner was hosted by Brian Conley, one of this country's greatest entertainers. He has starred in West End musicals, films, television sitcoms and of course, The Brian Conley Show.

For the first time ever, teams battled it out in 'It's a knockout' using the original inflatables, costumes and games from the beloved BBC series which rules Saturday tea time telly during the 1970's and 1980's. Great fun was had by all.

YouGov’s 2016 University Catering Report

This report follows on from the previous YouGov Reports publications University Catering 2011,2013, 2014 and 2015, and examines the eating habits of students, considering where and what they eat, their key attitudes, their spending and habits. It also considers both in-home and out-of-home preferences and choices; with around 1.7 million students in the UK this represents a huge market, and one that holds significant opportunities. For this report,YouGov Reports commissioned a survey on YouGov’s online panel, using a pre-screened sample which had determined respondents’ educational qualifications to survey 1,032 students aged 18+ studying for their first degree, foundation course, or a postgraduate qualification.

 New Eatwell Guide

The UK’s national food guide has been updated in light of recent recommendations made by the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) in their report on Carbohydrates and Health published in July 2015.

The Eatwell Guide has replaced the eatwell plate and continues to define the government’s advice on a healthy balanced diet. The Eatwell Guide is a visual representation of how different foods and drinks can contribute towards a healthy balanced diet.

The Eatwell Guide is based on the 5 food groups and shows how much of what you eat should come from each food group. Public Health England encourages organisations and individuals to use the Eatwell Guide to make sure everyone receives consistent messages about the balance of foods in a healthy diet. This publication provides guidance on using the Eatwell Guide in promotional materials.

The Student Chef Challenge

The Country Range brand has taken over lead sponsorship of the key industry competition The Student Chef Challenge, run in conjunction with the Craft Guild of Chefs.

The competition, now in its 22nd year, targets teams of three full-time student chefs studying hospitality or catering college courses and requires the preparation, cooking and presentation of a three-course, two-cover menu.

“We are delighted to support this well-respected competition. It is important that students are given the opportunity to showcase their skills within the industry.  The Student Chef competition not only does this but, throughout the course of the competition, provides further support and development of their talent. We are excited to be working with the colleges, students and the Craft Guild of Chefs to build an even greater event.” - Coral Rose, Managing Director of Country Range Group.

For the 2015/16 challenge competing teams have been asked to go ‘Freestyle’ by presenting a menu that embraces the modern trend for clean,well-portioned and precisely executed cooking. Menus must be produced using a maximum of £8 worth of ingredients per cover and should be balanced with the three courses working well together.

The winning team will receive a five-day work experience week assisting the Craft Guild of Chefs culinary team at the Culinary Olympics in Germany. The entries for this years competition is now closed and the finalists will be announced shortly. The live final will take place on March 3 at Hotelympia 2016.

We will be launching the 2016/17 competition online on a brand new website which will be launched shortly and in a future issue of Stir it up.
